You can ask an OB if there is one they recommend, you can Google it, then look at their credentials and do interviews with the ones you like most. You can search for lists of questions to ask them. Just do lots of searches for birth stories, choosing a midwife, if you want a water birth you need to look into that. Once you find a good midwife she can answer your questions. Where are you located? Oh and you need a CPM (Certified Professional Midwife) for a home birth, CNM's (Certified Nurse Midwife) only deliver in hospitals. You are welcome to message me with questions

I wanted a home birth so bad but my insurance doesn't cover it. I cried for hours when I found out. But I will be having a natural birth with a midwife at a hospital. Hopefully I go into labor on my own this time so I can spend as much time as possible at home while in labor.

Thanks everyone for sharing everything!  This is going to be my 1st baby, I'll be 12 weeks tomorrow. I've been leaning towards at home, I just don't know a lot about it yet. I'm definitely going to look into it more, it sounds like an amazing experience. How do I go about finding a midwife and learning more about home birth?

That posted before I was done. I highly recommend it to anyone that wants it and has a good pregnancy. If home is too much of a stretch, birth centers are great middle ground.

I had a home birth and it was amazing! It was so peaceful and calm. I never felt rushed or pressured. They all catered to me and what I needed, but would also give me room when I needed it. My team was awesome! Midwives are very qualified, but it is important to interview, check credentials and see that you are compatible. They know everything they need to to give you a safe natural birth and keep you comfortable, but they also know when it's time for medical intervention. The hospital was literally right down the road and i have a great relationship with my backup Dr.

Yea I think think home births are great when there is no worry of complications medical condotions ect. They are a grwat thing for the right person. Not sure I could have ever done it just to uptight and afraid something would go wrong etc. Lol im all about an as natural as possible experience at the hospital :-) I had to have a csection with my first doing a vbac this time. Amd could not be more thankful that I live so near such amazing care and hospitals since I live.30-40 minutes from three nationally acclaimed hospital, birthing at one of them. Vbavs are like second nature to them! :-) and I found out at my appt today that half ny birth plan ie delayed cord clamping ect are standards at my hospital now! :-)

You can do an all natural birth in a hospital as well. Some hospitals offer doulas to assist you  and the option to have a water birth. I'm planning on giving birth in a hospital just because I feel it's safer.

I have two births in the hospital, one i had a birthing unit in a pool (AMAZING EXPERIENCE!!) Then the second was on delivery suite and was harder, although luckily the midwife i had with my first recognised me and came in and took over. IF (massive if) i decide to have any more i will be wanting to try a home birth.  my mum had three out if four births at home and she loved them. I would definitely want to try it next time. If you can have a home birth and feel comfortable about it, then go for it!! X

I want all the drugs...so...hospital it is for me. I have a super low pain tolerance and couldn't handle being at home.

I have a medical condition that makes home birth unsafe- just in case something goes wrong. But! If I could, I definitely would. Even though I can't, I'm still going to draw some definitive lines and have a natural birth at the hospital as long as no emergent situations arise.

Personally I would love a home birth they look so relaxing and fabulous ! But I'd bad complications on my first pregnancy so I feel safer at hospital incase intervention is needed.  Though I don't think I'm allowed vbac :( :(
