The research is from my doc who is a national leader on miscarriage research. His name is David Ware Branch. I agree progesterone can't hurt. But theres got to be another answer out there.
If it doesn't help, it certainly doesn't hurt, right? Better safe than sorry. Many women on this site have taken progesterone at the suggestions of their doctors after miscarriages and gone on to have healthy, supplement-aided pregnancies. It might not help, you're absolutely right. But it might...and since doctors all have different opinions on this, it's best to do what your doctor recommends.
crporath - where is the research that there is no scientific proof that progesterone helps? I know several women who have doctors who have used it religiously and SEEM to have saved women who suffer multiple miscarriages from miscarrying in following pregnancies once they began treatment. I'm curious where you found your information though. Last I heard, the research proving its' helpfulness was favorable.
I've had three miscarriages and I'm on my fourth pregnancy. I'm seeing a miscarriage specialist who also does a lot of research on this. He does not think progesterone supplements help with miscarriage. On my 2nd pregnancy I took progesterone and I still miscarried. (You will probably not miscarry) If you are worried a lot of women say it helps to take supplements but scientifically it hasn't been proven effective. Also because science doesn't say it works most insurances don't cover it. I wouldn't worry about it too much, you are probably going to have a beautiful baby. Good luck
if the progesterone is low enough, it can be a serious concern and yes a miscarriage risk (not necessarily a miscarriage, but your risk is much higher). If you have had a test showing low progesterone, I would immediately request progesterone supplements. the doctor can prescribe something to raise your progesterone level and hopefully avoid any possible complications.
good luck
