I had my DD after my water broke spontaneously at 30 weeks. She is now a happy healthy 12 year old. They never figured out why my water broke so early either. My son was born 10 years later at 36 weeks (after induction... I'm pretty sure I would have carried to term). I also had a cerclage. But it was not because of my daughter being premature, it was because of scarring on my cervix due to surgery. And their not even sure it was necessary, more of a precaution. When they took it out at 33-34 weeks (due to contractions) I never dialated. We are debating whether or not to repeat it this time.
wattobeamumagain is right. It does not hurt at all going in... but taking it out is REALLY uncomfortable!!! And it isn't without risks. But it is TOTALLY worth it if it keeps your little one baking longer!!! They don't help everyone. A cerclage only works for someone who has a true incompatent cervix. Your Dr. will be able to give you more information and decide if it would be right for you.
Good Luck to you!! I know quite a few mama's that had preemies and went on to carry the next baby full term. Another thing they can do is 17p shots (progesterone) weekly from week 16-37. These are supposed to prevent PTL. Maybe talk to your Dr. about them too.

It dont hurt they do a spinal block so you feel nothing. My son is heathy but he is disabled with special needs but he is here causing me lots of trouble!! Hope everything goes well for you, let me know if they are going to do the stitch for ya. x

Yes its happend to me. I had my last son at 25 weeks and this time around ive had a cervical stitch put in at 14 weeks, ive made it so far to 33 weeks, 34 weeks monday. Next time you see you consultant ask about a cervical stitch that will help you get closer to full term.

It really depends on why your son was premature. If the prematurity had to do with him, then it might be an isolated case. If your premature labor was caused by your body (incompetent cervix, water broke, placental abruption, etc., etc.) then it could happen again.
