They recommend you try to keep the day in the house for the first 6 weeks, at least that's what I am going to do.... 10 days is way to early for a little one to be traveling... I want my baby to be strong before going out for personal enjoyment... Your family will have plenty of time to visit the baby or you can do a road trip when baby is stronger and can at least hold his own head.... That is my opinion and what I would do with my baby, because now he will be your main priority and the rest of your family come second, please think about him first..... Good luck!
I personally didnt really wait this will be my third and I didn't wait with either of my . Other two and they never had any problems or been sick alot our dr told me as long as it wasn't freezing or raining then go the more they are exposed to the better their immune system will be and so far my 12yr old has only been sick except sinus and little colds 2x ever and my 18mo old hasnt been sick yet just 1 ear infection but its really up to u to make that choice
I think it's really unrealistic to expect you to stay inside for 6 weeks! I have a 4 year old that needs to go to and from school everyday and my partner works long hours so I will be taking my baby with me for the school run every day(walking it's about an 45min round trip). Also docs appointments and things (baby weigh etc) they all happen outside the home. It isn't possible for some women to stay inside for 6 weeks.
I don't see a problem my sister had a baby and we made a 12 hour car jurney to the Scottish Highlands when my niece was 2 weeks old and she was fine although it did take almost 16 hour to get there with stops :) I think they say no longer then 2 hours in a car seat new born so with plenty of stops you'll be fine
Your baby can even travel on a air plane after 2 days he's or she is born.!! My cousin travel from Michigan to Florida after she had her baby like 3 or 5 days and the baby is perfectly fine
I wouldn't do it. YOU won't feel like traveling like that. You are also recovering. That's not a great way to relax, bonding with your child in my opinion. I would ask your dad to come visit you instead. good luck
Some people don't want to get out of the house that soon, but if you're anything like me... You'll want nothing more than to just get out! I think it's fine as long as you are making sure the baby eats along the way and what not. My son is 5 weeks old today and tomorrow will be taking a 9 hour road trip! Couldn't be more excited (:
Maybe wait till hes a few weeks old...but dont wait the full 6 weeks. Also, if you are having him naturally (not inducing or c section) chances are he might even come later than your due date. If i were you, i would ask the pediatrician cause they'd know best.
You know what I was doing when my first was one week old? Adjusting to motherhood. LOL Resting my body that had just gone through birth. Getting used to breast feeding. Allowing my partner time to bond with the baby. (so I could catch a nap). Doing 8 tons of laundry because it is amazing how much babies go through clean things! I did a load a day for a family of three!
I think one week is too soon, I really do. I was still bleeding pretty badly at one week post birth.
I went on a 4-day (8 hours traveling each way) trip with my mother to visit family when my son was 5 weeks old. I don't know how I did it. I was really still figuring out how to do all the things... breastfeeding was pretty well established and I'd almost stopped bleeding but I hadn't figured out how to do things like eat while holding him or survive on minimal sleep, and not having my husband with us (he had to work) made for even more stress.
I certainly don't think staying in the house for six weeks is necessary. But I do think that the journey I took was more taxing than I should have tried just five weeks after having a baby. Absolutely no way would I consider a ten hour trip with a brand new newborn just a week or two old. I personally think the body and the brain need much more rest than that after delivery before choosing to make a trek that long.
If you feel that you are able to go and the pediatrician says it's okay for your baby to go than go for it. It will be stressful but new borne do sleep a lot and as long as you are making stops to stretch and feed than I think it will be okay. The day I was released from the hospital after having my son (I had a csection) we had to move an hour away so yeah I was a bit sore and uncomfortable for that drive but my baby was just fine. I'm pregnant with my 3rd child now. Every mom has to make there own choices with what they feel is right or wrong.
