Good luck! Like factormomma said, you get to meet your baby soon. It's all worth it in the end. And c-sections aren't as bad as a lot of people make them out to be.

You'll do great! The idea of a c-section is way worse than the actual thing. It'll be so so so worth it!

Since this is your first c-section may I ask the reason for it? Because if you are afraid of the surgery and there's not a "serious" reason for it such as breech, pre-eclampsia, placental issues, etc. then you can always refuse it (such as if it's for a "big" baby because often the ultrasound is wrong or a "small pelvis" these are not good reasons). Remember, you have the right to refuse any medical procedure that you don't want. However, if it is medically necessary than you're doing the right thing :) Good luck with the birth however it turns out!

Baby is an unstable lie, mainly transverse (on her side) I refused to try to turn her as it can cause distress. I just don't like the thought of not being able to look after her when she's born.

I had a c section because my son was breech, more than 1 way. His head was up in my ribs and he was sunny side up. It went great! My recovery was smooth and I was home 2 days later! Best wishes to you and congrats on meeting your little one very soon!

Oh ok, well that makes sense if she isn't in the right position. And I won't lie, after my emergency c-section I was forced to take care of my son because my husband couldn't miss more class or he'd loose his scholarship. It fu*@ing hurt! To sneeze, cough, laugh, roll over, sit, stand, walk, pee, it all hurt sooo bad! And yet I still had to pick up my son, feed him, change him etc. all the while feeling this burning, excruciating pain because my stomach had been cut open. Because I had to be so active after my surgery, my scar healed unevenly (like some parts are still raised while others have faded, like stretch marks) though it is structurally sound. I'm not trying to scare you, just let you know that it will be hard. I think a lot of women sugar coat c-sections so we don't really know what recovery is going to be. I highly suggest getting your mom, sister, a friend or somebody to at least spend the first week with you. Because it will be hard enough to stand without pain, let alone while holding a child. It'd be much easier if you could stand and then have your mother or whoever hand you the baby. Also, I couldn't do laundry because I wasn't "allowed" to bend over like that or carry the basket and dr. said vacuuming was  HUGE no-no because of the motion used?!

Hun, you'll be able to look after her after she's born! Yes, you'll have to be careful, but you can still be her main care taker...you will figure it out as you go...the first 24 hrs after surgery, the nurses will have to give her to you, but after that, you will have the catheter out n the iv so you will be able to move around..once you go home, you'll know more of how u feel and what you can do...I know its hard because this is all new to you, but I promise it will all be just fine.!

Hi. I ended up with a section a few weeks ago and it wasn't as bad as everyone said.  They examined my baby right next to me and I held him right away all slimy and everything!  He even nursed right away in recovery.  My baby was in my post partum room the entire time and for two of the nights, my husband went home to stay with our 20 month old.  I got him out and nursed all by myself.  I don't think you will have any issues taking care of him.  You'll do great!  :)

Just want to say, you will be given pain medication for pain so you really shouldn't be feeling excruciating pain..if its that bad you will need to talk to ur doc..and I have always had an extra pair of helping hands for when I came home...if you do too much you will have longer recovery...that's why I said, you will know what u can do as you go along...if you go into it thinking nothing but the worst, then that's how you will end up feeling! Yes its scary, but definitly doable..;-) I've survived 3 of em and will have #4 in 6 wks!!! Just keep in mind, everyone's experience is different..yours can be a great one too! ;-) best wishes.

I agree, the pain medicine after makes it so much more tolerable, if anything, it's an uncomfortable pain, and only because you know what just happened, haha. You will be FINE, I took care of my son immediately after, and since I didn't baby myself, I was feeling almost completely normal by the time I left the hospital, from the hospital we went multiple places to show the new baby off, and I felt great. So walk when they allow you to walk, and as much as you can, and good luck!! It's amazing!! :)

My recovery was great, and I'm not sugar coating it.  people just take surgery different ways.  I was up and doing my normal thing the next day with minimal pain.  My first bm hurt like hell but what are ya gonna do lol.  The only time I was in "excruciating" pain was when my face itched so bad after surgery I about scratched it off.  The duramorph and I don't hang well, but I'm getting it again sadly.

Thanks everyone. I don't want suger coated is rather someone told me what to expect. I know its a major surgery so going to take time to recover just don't want to feel like I have any resentment towards my daughter if I'm in that much pain

Ohh resentment will be the farthest thing from your mind, I assure you. Seeing your new baby is the most amazing experience, ever! Painful or not, it's all worth it. And it is a major surgery, but it's not as bad as people make it out to be, if you don't try to have some level of pain tolerance, it's going to hurt like hell, it's more of a mind over matter, it does hurt, but it's tolerable, and you can do it! :)

The first night for me was hell, only because of the nurse I had (long story) other then that as soon as the IV antiobiotic was done I was up and going for walks. The first couple of walks wasn't fun but wasn't that hard.

I know I need to move around as soon as I can I'm going to ask if I can self Medicare as well so don't have to wait for nurses for pain relief.
