step b positive.

Last week at my 36 week checkup my doctor did the test for Strep B. I got a call saying it came back positive and that I'll need to be on antibiotics during labor. But that's about all I know about it...does anyone have any info about it. What exactly is it?  What causes it? Should I be worried? Will I always have it with every pregnancy? How big of a danger is it to my child? Any info will be helpful!

Do some research because I had it and found out the baby can be more at risk for complications with the antibiotics.  So I opted bot to receive them during delivery.

All it is is a bacteria some women produce completely harmless to us but you will need antibiotics before your baby is born so the baby doesn't catch it. Thays all I can tell you. Hope that helps though!

Not dangerous, really. Just make sure they know to put you on the antibiotics. I don't know what it is or what causes it but you are basically a carrier of the virus and if they don't put you on the antibiotics, it can spread to your baby during delivery. Nothing to worry about though :) The doc and nurses will know what to do. Just make sure you let them know in case when the time comes.
