television

How do you ladies feel about your babies watching TV? I honestly don't like it because he's just so little so I don't like the idea of putting on cartoons for him to keep him entertained, plus my mom always told me 'tv is not a babysitter'

My bf on the other hand doesn't mind him watching TV, he says it helps him to see more colors and blah blah, be more open minded but I don't see how.

What's all your opinions on the topic?

My niece and nephew are always infront of the tv my nephew is only 11/2 and he tunes out everything around him and cries when it goes off so i know for sure when my baby girl gets here she will not be watching tv for more than an hour day!

I will let my baby watch TV. I agree that tv is not a babysitter, but I don't see any harm in letting them watch a couple of cartoons. My nephew, Ashton will literally wake up in the middle of the night and SCREAM bawling his eyes out if the dvd stopped and the tv went blank. But if the tv stays on and he has something to watch, he'll be cool and collect. Plus babies just like noise and lights a lot, it keeps them entertained.

Until my daughter was 3, she was allowed a half hour a day of educational tv (I loved Baby Einstein) so I could do my dishes and house work. From 3 to current (she's 6), she's allowed an hour, a half hour educational, I approve the "fun" one, because there is a ton of garbage cartoons out there. I was plopped in front of the tv all day, and I would hate to do that to my children. This baby will have the same rules regarding tv.

I just feel like it's a lazy way of getting out of playing with my son, he's almost 3 months barley so he's wayyy to little to be watching TV in my opinion. But I'm working again so I'm not with him 24 hours a day like I was before, I work swings so he stays home with his daddy and that's when he gets to watch his cartoons, even though there's no facts I'm scared it's Genna mess up his eyes or something and he'll end up needing glasses.

I cant wait for my little girl to be born so we can watch The Little Mermaid, Cinderella, movies like that together.  It gives me an excuse to watch them myself haha.  I wouldn't allow violence, nudity or nothing adults watch, just cartoons.  I see how it can show babies colors and what not.  My parent's let me watch cartoons when I was a baby and I turned out okay  lol.

Exactly. Tv is fine if its not a hole lot. I would rather be teaching him things n playing with him then set him in front of a tv for hours just to keep him occupied. The most hell prolly watch tv is when im cleaning for about 30 mins to an hour each day!

I believe television is fine as long as the shows arent trash, like a lot of the childrens yv shows that are featured today.. I especially dont like the ones where the characters dont speak a wordly language.. it baffles me how there is any point to a non educational show that has no direction haha. My bub isnt here yet but they wont be sitting infront of the tv all the time, like you said tv is not a babysitter, but I dont think there is anything wrong with stories with plenty of colours and the sort we grew up with, where there is a moral to the story.

My daughter is 2 1/2 and we only allow her to watch one movie a day. We don't have TV at our house but I don't like the idea of kids watching tons of TV. It stops them from being a kid and using their imagination to entertain themselves and learn. I would rather my daughter play outside or do puzzles rather than stick her in front of a TV. TV shouldn't be used as a baby sitter.

My baby is not here yet but I agree with both views. My husband and I always sit down at 7pm and watch our shows it's our family time even our dog will get anxious if we don't sit down at a certain time lol I think and hope that during the day I will keep my baby occupied with toys games and educational things ( when she's old enough) but at the same time I want her to know that even if its just sitting down in the evening and watching TV its more about the family time. I don't want TV to be my babysitter but I hope she does see TV and dinner as family time if that makes sense lol

Yeah I know for myself I learned a lot of things from watching stuff like barney and whatnot as a kid. As long as the shows or movies are appropriate I don't see why not.
