Yeah, my doctor also told me that the ds test(ultrasound) could only be done between weeks 11-13.6. But all doctors are different. In my case, I had the DS ultrasound done at 12w6d and was told that the nuchal fold behind the neck looked great, but was offered a blood test just in case the ultrasound was wrong so I took that too.

I am in the us I live in new york.  My doctor offers me every test. I am not high risk...maybe your insurence dont cover it unless you really need the test?  My cousin is a nurse practitioner and told me about the produre and said everyone goes through this way if they want the test done.  I wasnt going to do it but she told me its a ultrasound then bloodwork.  I also went through it and still goin through it...so I dont understand how u get a nuchal scan after 16w its only done between 11-13.6w they must bbe doing a different ultrasound test on u

I just went through this ordeal. Most doctors do not due an ultrasound for downs. They do the blood test at 15-18 weeks & if abnormal you have an u/s to check "markers" such as the back of neck, fingers, heart & nose bone. Most of those things aren't developed until that point. Some OBs may do it differently but for the most part this is how it's done in the US. They offer the amnio & blood test once the u/s shows these markers since there is a risk of miscarriage with amnio & not all insurance covers the blood test. My test came back abnormal so I have spent the last 2 months researching all of this.

They normally don't do an ultrasound for downs. It's a blood test & if it comes back irregular they will do an u/s.

You can not just call the hospital & schedule an u/s. Your doctor has to send an order to them to schedule it. Insurance will only cover u/s that are necessary. The appts aren't a waste you will get to hear the heartbeat & they check weight, blood pressure, urine, measurements to make sure things are going ok. Without those most problems wont be caught if they were to arise. Ultrasounds won't catch those things.

Im 38wks...  and ive only had 2 ultrasound through my doctor. They say its not good to have that many ultrasounds. And I think it depends on how many ur insurance covers....not sure FTM so I dont know that much. Hope u get an ultrasound!

It might be different depending on where you live, since I got my first u/s at 21 weeks and that was for the anatomy scan and gender determination. They told  me I'm only allowed to have one unless there Is somethin' wrong or they can't find the heartbeat on my regular visit. It's kinda lame.

I got my gender scan at 14 weeks and a confirmation at 18. It just depends on your doctor.

Your doctor has to refer you to have one done, they won't just do it. Or there are usually places around town that do 3D sonograms but you have to pay out of pocket for them. Every appointment from now on they will probably just use the doppler to check the heartbeat.

For my first few appointments my midwife always did an ultrasound but that's because she had a machine in her office. But now that she's moved offices I don't get anymore :(

Your next ultrasound should be at 20wks and then 30wks. I had one at 6wks, 12wks, 22wks, amd my next one is 32wks but if i want one before then my dr told me she cam schedule something.

Yeah just the first one and then a 20 week anatomy scan to make sure baby is growing fine is what most doctor's do. So 2 throughout the pregnancy unless you high risk.

Usually you don't get but 1 or 2 ultrasounds through out the whole pregnancy unless there are problems or it's just your doctors way of doing things (which is rare). They would have told you if you were going to have an u/s. Your next one won't be until 20 weeks most likely.

If it's the way it is at my doctor's office, they don't do an ultrasound at every appointment. They have to schedule us to get our ultrasounds done at the hospital which has more advanced equipment. They'll most likely schedule you for an anatomy ultrasound sometime between 18-22 weeks, or give you one of the ones tomorrow with the mobile machine...or both!
