Its a nurse with at least a masters degree or doctorate, plus special training similar to how a medical doctor specializes in obstetrics and gynecology.

They are basically nurses specially trained in the care of pregnant women and babies. My care has always been midwifery-led and i find are much more gentle, caring and sympathetic than some doctors

Midwives just haven't had as much schooling as a DR but I tell you this, probably more midwives out there are better than DRs. They are trained for home births without much medical help. Their goal is to do all natural unless necessary. I have a midwife and I LOVE her! I trust her more than the doctor

A midwife is like a obgyn but not a doc but they still kno what docs kno can prescribe meds and send for scans.  They look after you during your pregnancy
