Okay, due to some unfortuant events i have.to.get assistance. I am looking into wic and know a little about it. But have some questions. Can i get it even if i am married. How many checks etc do u get a month. What.type of stuff will i see. My other question is does food stamps count ur household as two if its just me and the hubby or do they count it as three since i am pregnant. Thanks for any help.

Don't be ashamed to get WIC, most people on here get WIC.  You will get about 4 checks a month with bread, milk, cheese, eggs, juice, fruits/veg, cereal.  Yes you can get it if you are married.  Foodstamps count just you and hubby if thats all that lives in house.  You will get more foodstamps after baby is born.

I'm on wic, I know they count your unborn baby as a person but not sure about food stamps. Your income has to be pretty low to qualify, I qualify now that I'm single but once my fiance and I get married we'll make too much. I only make 11$ an hour and he only makes 14.80 and yet our income will be close to 600$ over the limit for a family of three... it's frustrating because we will still really need assistance as we're both students.
Right now I get tons of milk, 10$ of produce, 3 things of frozen juice, peanut butter, a dozen eggs, 3 cans of beans, a loaf of bread, and 36 oz of cereal a month.

yeah, definitely don't be ashamed to get WIC. Even women with full-time good paying jobs get WIC. WIC varies in most states, like in my state you only get the cheese if you are breastfeeding. but you get everything else that des92 listed above, plus peanut butter and beans.

Oh yea, I forgot peanut butter and beans.  I don't get cheese either, but most places give you cheese.

Omg, I want cheese too!  I would eat the whole thing in a day or two lol.  Here you go to an appointment every 2 months.  Some places even let you get a gallon of chocolate milk which I am jealous about lol they don't let you get that here.

lol and in SC, we have to get beans in the bag, the ones that you have to let slow-cook. and then once you have the baby you will get tuna and I think some more stuff too, and if you choose to solely breastfeed, your state will give you a new, free breastpump but whether it is electric or manual depends on your state. WIC can be a lifesaver for the people that really need it.

Yup, here they give you an electric one.  If you decide to fully breastfeed you will get the full food package as long as you don't get formula.  And yes, it is a real life saver, it's a nutritional program.  Katerz up there that posted earlier always has something to say about WIC.  Yesterday I posted about getting cheese with WIC and of course Katerz had something to say.  Don't let people bother you about WIC or even food stamps, because those things are there for people that need them.  Sure, you shouldn't abuse them or live off them when you don't need too but if you need them then take advantage.

Don't ever be ashamed to get wic! I did with all pregnancy and for my kids. I do know for wic the income limits are much higher then for food stamps. Also if you receive Medicaid your automatically qualified. Now for food stamps they do not count the baby as a person in the household till he/she is born. Well that's how it is here in California at least. They do it that way because you receive for the number of people living and your only seen as 1. Also here in ca they do give an extra $47 or so per month for the pregnant woman though. I wish you the best of luck!

I know here in ca yes you can be approved the same day, only if you bring all needed documents. So I would take this list of items to your appointment,
ID, social security card, birth certificate, proof of income, proof of residence, current bank statement, and car registration.
That's what is needed here in ca and your proof of residence is your lease. If you are renting a room from someone have them write a letter saying so and how much you pay.

Thank you. I have all my paperwork ready to go however they never said anything about car paperwork.  :-\ hopefully i will find out that same day. Yeah with my husbands unemployment our rent utilities and phone and cable take up almost double what we recieve in a month. Even taking away the luxury we still dont have enough income coming in.  :-(

And honestly, I'd rather take one less stress away from me (even if it's just buying formula if breastfeeding doesn't work out for me) so I can focus all of my energy into my kids, and not be a miserable grump..then it's worth it to me, I don't care what anyone thinks of me.

I agree to a point that people abuse the system, and I also agree to a point that if you cant afford a child, you shouldnt be having one. but mistakes do happen, condoms break, the pill doesnt work. etc. For me I was ttc, and my husband had/has a wonderful job that he will be returning too, where he makes great money that can support all three of us. I am currently looking for a job. but unfortuantly when the winter hit (I live in alaska, so yes winter) he was laid off. causing us to loose alot of income and need assistance. I WILL NOT be living off it forever, but just for the time being until we can get back into the shape of things. But we dont take advantage of the situation either. When I lived in wisc. and my husband had a car accident, or when i had a surgery we went to the food pantry to get some help a little. but we allways gave back by volunteering, and then when we were back on our feet, we still helped by donating, helping still. So please no one think of me as mooching off our system. I am not ashamed I have to reach out to them, I am unfortuant I have too.

Some People are going to abuse the system, plain and simple. However it does not mean that every person who recieves some kind of assistance is abusing it! WIC is a great program that helps many families, and although I dont recieve it, I certainly dont think im better than anyone because I dont. Thats ridiculous. I know many people who are hard workers and wonderful parents who recieve wic, whats the big deal?! And yes some people do ruin it for others, just like some people thinking that everyone who recieves wic is worthless therefore making those that do recieve it feel like they are somehow less than because of it.

ashkevin, you dont need to explain yourself/situation to anyone. I certainly dont think "less of you" because you are going to get wic. Please do not think that just because one close minded person started this on your post it means that that is what we all assume because it isnt! I know situations happen that are unpredictable, and  none of us live in a "fairy tale perfect world"!! No one has the right to judge!  Congrats on your pregnancy!! =)
