i had a water birth when i was 19. i also used gas and air. its so relaxing when you get in, the heat relaxes your muscles and you just feel so cozy. if you choose to have a water birth and decide you want an epidural, you can get one (although you'll have to go to a labour ward). i had my own room and it felt homely. they say it reduces the chances of tearing, i never tore. my daughter was born 7lb 0oz. i was worrying about her drowning but they come from a sac of water so before they can breathe they cant drown in the bath. it was such a great experience, i loved it. i was joking with my partner and the midwives and it was just surreal, course the gas and air probably done that lol but it is great and i would recommend it. every pregnancy, body and labour are different so the rare time you hear a horror story but baby has to come out one way or another so might as well think of it as being a great experience. besides, its a few hours of pain. its bearable (also depending on your own body) but if you want pethadine or another pain relief injection, you should be able to get it in the bath. at 19 everyone told me i would need an epidural, but i didnt want that. so i feel very proud of myself for coping so well at such a young age. hope your labour goes well :) afterwards, pain goes when you see your baby. compared to 9 months of feeling fat, sick, tired, uncomfortable and constipated, whats 6 hours of a bad period? lol

I know someone who did it. She told me when I wanted mine that it won't really do much if water doesn't already help calm you and help with pain. I know that if I had gone with a water birth like I had intended it wouldn't have done anything for me. I had already laboured in the tub at home for 2 hours before I went to the hospital and it didn't help at all. (And water normally does calm and relax me and help with pain) Check out your hospital and see how they do. Some don't even allow you to give birth in water, and you can only labour in it.

I have heard that waterbirth can be nice but as with all labor it's going to hurt and water wont make that go away. The water is supposed to be nice though
