What do my MRA Results mean?

FINDINGS:
Vasculature: There is a normal anatomic configuration of the aortic arch. There is mild atherosclerotic plaque at the bilateral carotid bifurcations with <50% stenosis by NASCET criteria, There is no MPRAGE positive plaque, ulceration or intraluminal thrombus. The left V4 segment terminates as the PICA. The vertebral arteries show no significant stenosis. There is no evidence of dissection. No evidence of venous thrombosis.

NASCET = North American Symptomatic Carotid Endarterectomy Trial. NASCET trial proved the benefits of performing endarterectomy in those patients with symptomatic high-grade stenosis.

0-49% = mild stenosis
50-69% = moderate stenosis
70-99% = severe stenosis

Your case of less than 50% is mild. On the other hand, someone else with greater than 70% stenosis would warrant intervention.
