Unknown Causes for Diarrhea, Nausea & Vomitting

I need urgent advice for my sister-in-law where she is suffering from an unknown medical matter. She has been suffering from heavy diarrhea, nausea & vomitting for the past 3 months. She is now being hospitalize but few of her Doctors' has done so many test e.g. blood, CT Scan & MRI where all report shown normal. One thing she has been diagnose with are Gall bladder stone. She is cutrrantly being put on drip but than all the suffering she is still experiencing.

We've no clue of what causes all her suffering and she is lossing weight fast and we really appreciate your suggestion.

Caroline, with your sister-in-law tavelling to china,I would rule out an intestinal trematode infestation by doing repeated stool tests, especially by concentration method.
Best wishes.

My apology for the late reply. I appreciated your suggestion and had suggested the investigation to be carrying out for my sister-law.

We don't quite understand as when my sister-in law is put on IV drip and her diarrhea & vomitting reduced from constance to only once a day and after a day or two being returned from the hospital her condition will be back to constance for the diarrhea & vomitting and we have to rush her to the hospital again.

I strongly agreed with your suggestion for the "recent trave" where she has been to China in June 2011 and two weeks after her returned from China her condition started.

Hi Caroline,
Thanks for the updates. The tests done have been plenty and conclusive should there have been positive results in the gastrointestinal tract. However, if all gastrointestinal tests were normal, genitourinary causes such as ovarian cyst, pregnancy,  medication, occupation and recent travel should also be considered. Discuss this with her doctor also. Take care and do keep us posted.

Dear Dr. Santos

Thank you for your reply. Yes, my sister-in-law has been refer to Gastroenterologist and he has carried out Oesophago-Gestro, Endoscopy, Fibreoptic Colonoscopy & full blood test with CA125 included.

All his finding is normal and yesterday he did perform one last test to remove some tissue from her small intestine and suggesting sending to Australia for investigation.

Althought this two days her diarrhea has reduce from frequent to only 3/4 times a day & her vomitting is still the main problem where whatever food & fluid she is consuming is vomited out.

We hope with your suggestion we can share with our Gastroenterologist over here.

Thank you once again.

Caroline

Hi,
How is your sister-in-law? Are there other symptoms or medical conditions present? What specific blood tests were done already? What other tests were done aside from the CT scan and MRI? Was there a referral to a gastroenterologist? With diarrhea and vomiting, it is important to avoid dehydration. Take care and hope to hear from you soon.
