Not sure its under the right topic but heres my question.
my mil has 100% custody of her son. She moved and offered to take him with her but he decided to live with his dad. Legal rights are still in her hands. The son hates living with his father so moved out on his own. His dad is now moving out of town completely so the son will have no family around him. He is only 17 and still needs guidance and needs to finish school grades 10-12. My husband and I are being GIVEN legal rights from the mother. Till the son moved out, the father was to pay child support to the mother since she had him for years without the father. The father is now telling us that he doesnt have to pay child support because the son is choosing to live with us. The mother states that she has papers FROM the lawyer stating that child support is to be paid until the son is 19. (PS the mother who lives in australia was receiving the money from the father for child support and giving it to the son. Regardless or that, the father pays for and never did pay for anything for the son.
My question. Since the mother has papers from the judge stating child support is to be paid till he is 19, will that still apply to us for housing him and putting him through school? (PS canada law)
