Do or can dating websites sell your info to other dating sites?

He's on every sleezy dating website in Stockton. I say he absolutely made those profiles.  He swears he didn't .  He says he only made one yrs ago and that they must have sold his info to other dating websites

Why don't you send a sleazy reply and see if he's got another email address you don't know about. I agree with the others, sounds like he's a creep, I'm sorry, I hope you're not married to him for ages or anything. Feel better. You're best revenge is to live your best life. Do you have friends that you can go out to dinner or shopping with? Try not to be alone and stew about this. It is no reflection on you . Please remember that.

I agree with specialmom.  There is no incentive for anyone to BUY someone else's profile.  The dating company makes no money if there's not a real person on the other end of the profile, because on these sites, the person who set up the profile generally has to pay to get all of the essential features.  If no real person is paying the dating website for that profile, what do they have to gain?

The story sounds absolutely fishy.  I don't normally recommend confrontation, because if you're wrong, that's going to cause a (possibly irreparable) rift in the relationship.  However, it seems this guy is almost certainly lying, so you have little to lose by pushing this - unless, of course, you're OK with being with a liar and cheater (assuming it's your boyfriend).  He could show you that he doesn't have the app on his phone, or that opening it doesn't log him into a profile, or a clean email inbox without dating messages... but ah, as I'm typing this, I'm wondering what the point is.  His story seems outlandish, and I'd be disinclined to believe it, and walk away.

Before the internet age, the biggest problem for a person running a dating site was finding women, since most of the paying clientele were men. Women were given free memberships just to keep the paying clients hopeful that prospects existed.
No idea what the case is today, but my guess is things haven't changed so there would not be any incentive to add another man who wasn't paying.

I would say no.  He's made those profiles himself. I'm sorry.  Unless someone took his information and in revenge somehow made profiles with his info . . . I guess there is a 1 percent chance that is the case.  But otherwise, no, dating sites don't sell info so other dating sites can create phony profiles of their members.  Makes no sense and I wouldn't buy it.  Is this your boyfriend?
