What is the messiest room of your house and why?

I'm sure every one has a clutter spot, but do you have a room that just seems to be constantly an eye sore?  I do.  :>)  Tell me about yours and I'll tell you about mine.

Mine seems to be the dining room.  If any house repairs are going on it seems the dining room becomes the storage.  I finally got tired of looking at the ladder that was smashed up against the wall, like i wasnt going to see that!  I am still working on my living room so there are a couple paint cans in there along with a paint tray.  Now that the kids are all gone we dont eat in there anymore so i guess that is why it is the holding area for projects.

Dining table works for me, it's always full of stuff. My project this year is sorting boxes of things that probably were taken off the dining table and put into the box. But right now our messiest room in the house is my son's room. He will NOT get rid of old toys, too much sentimental value, and I won't go in and strong-arm him on it. Probably will box up some stuff and let it get old, then sneak it out of the house once he has totally forgotten it.

My Husband's Garage !!  I on the other hand am an organizer - even my 'junk' drawer has containers so I can organize the junk.   It wasn't this way while we had Children at home.  For us then, it was also the dining table and Their bedrooms

The messiest 'room' ??  How about our entire house now that it's packed with all my husbands medical equipment needs...and mountains of paper (I think most members on this thread know our story).

Our property is 5400 sq ft, but our house is only 814 sq ft...which includes the garage.  That's why I say 'our entire house'...! lol

I do my very best to keep it as tidy as possible though.

If I had to choose a specific area, though, I'd say the kitchen table.

I hesitate to ruin my image. ha.  I am very clean in that you could eat out of our toilets.  But man, I have some junk.  Our laundry room is enough to give me a headache every time I open the door.  I do so much laundry for two kids, a dog and my husband as well as myself.  I always have a pile to do and a pile to fold.  And a trash can to empty in there.  And it's dusty.  I try to wipe down the dryer for that dang dust but you know, I forget.  :>))

Dining room table.  Why do I pile c rap there?  I have no idea. But I do.  Floor by garage.  Shoes, shoes and more shoes. We call it the shoe pile. But when you have winter boots there in June . . . it's more like a mess pile.

And an upstairs room I affectionately call my 'crazy room'. Martha stewart has one so don't judge.  LOL  It's a room that is 'my office' or better known as 'the cave'.  No one really goes in there unless they have to.  It looks like the Mad Scientist resides there which is kind of what I am when on a project.

There, I've revealed the real me.

Oh, and that kitchen drawer. You know the one.  You have one too, don't you?  That ONE drawer where everything you don't know where else it goes but are afraid to throw it away goes?  ya, that one.

Yes, we did!  I know that ONE well.  We've lived other places, and always had that ONE drawer where everything went that you didn't know where to to put it.  Even spare keys...that we forgot what they went to.

Our house today has exactly two drawers in the kitchen.  A drawer large enough to use that plastic silverware holder, and a small one next to the stove that holds ladles (ladles we've never used and could throw away), spatulas, and the like.  It is so small, it holds them *just barely*.   I 'wish' for ONE of those drawers again.  I miss it.
If you don't have a drawer that everyone knows as the "junk drawer," you're just not living life right!

Our kitchen is messy without being dirty.  It's pretty big, so it kind of encourages us.  That's where the mail ends up, and then the small appliances that we get out and put away days later.  I don't even know HOW it gets that untidy sometimes.

The worst is the laundry room.  The mountains of clothes never stop, and it's hard to find a block of time to just do loads all the way to completion - wash, dry, fold/hang, and put away all in the same block? Not likely.  Our laundry room is tiny, too, relative to the house, but thankfully it has a door, and it's tucked away in a corner, so I can just close the door when we have company.

My silverware and gadgetry drawer is clean but the one that isnt resides in the dining room on the bakers rack.  That is full of lids.  There are 30 bazillion lids and only 5 bazillion containers.  I can never find the right lid for the container either.  I keep saying i really need to organize but in all reality that is a lie cuz i really dont care!!

I'm always late for the party, but I have to get in on this... right now, I've got a couple of areas that are turning out to be "junk" areas, but usually, it's just my junk drawer.

I have an extra desk in my dining room that I do projects on and for some reason, that's started being a "catchall", plus my spare bedroom is getting fuller than full because I've been boxing things up to have a yard sale.

My husband tends to not want to get rid of things (well, he thinks it's okay to get rid of "my" things, but not his... lol), so we just get too full at times and the whole house becomes a the messiest room...  :-)

Try my mothers trick.  Anything she wanted to go, but my dad didn't, she would put in the trunk of her car, then throw it out elsewhere.   lol
That's a good idea; didn't he ever wonder why she put things in the trunk of her car?  My problem is that now we're retired, we rarely go places without each other, so he'd still see me throw his things away.
No, he never wondered because she did it when he wasn't looking, or busy.  He's Always busy!  Besides, it was things that were never missed.  Things piled up the last few yrs before she passed away (Nov 2016) because like you and your husband, they did everything together because she was very ill.

I've used this trick with my own husband.  I tell him the bag is going to the 'Good Will'.  It's literally rags or things we haven't used in all the time we've lived here (20 yrs), so I take it out after dark and put it in the trash can to be picked up in the morning.  I would really take it to the Good Will...if it were things in good condition and could be used...and sometimes I do, but I usually don't have the time.

I see your problem though.

We went to look at a house the other day at one of those developments where they have houses in various stages of construction and a "model home" manned by a real-estate agent. We liked the agent so much we asked if he took listings (of course, asking that of an agent is like asking a man dying of thirst if he would like a drink of water) and he said sure, and offered to drop by our house and give us a rough idea of its value, in about 40 minutes (which was the end of his shift at the model home). Our house was NOT prepared for company. I know real-estate agents see houses in all states of disarray, but still.

We drove straight home, and triaged. I said to my husband, "Check the garage for dog poops and I'll load the dishwasher!" Then we both started laughing, he was running left to pick up the piddle pads in the garage and I was running right to get to the kitchen sink full of dishes, the cats were freaking out and ran outside. Once those most gross issues were handled, he ran for our son's bathroom and began just throwing things in the cabinet under the sink willy nilly (I fully expect to find our son's underpants and nightshirt under there in about a week) and threw everything off the kitchen counter into the cabinets beneath, even though half of that stuff was mail and papers. I then rushed in and made our bed, and since I had an opened suitcase on my dresser with clothes by it, just tossed them back into the suitcase, zipped it up and put it in the closet (neatly, because after all, our upcoming visitor was going to look in the closets!) Picked up clutter around my son's desk, tossed a couple of boxes under the dining room table, and was making our son's bed by pushing a quilt around with a yardstick (it's a platform bed) when the guy showed up.  WHEW

And of course, we will never find any of those things again.
Of course!!  Kudos to you both for getting so much 'unseen' in such a short amount of time!

If Sara happens to read this, just wait.  She freaks when she reads the word "underpants".  It's so funny.

I just today fished the old mail out of the pots and pans cupboard in the kitchen, where my husband had thrown it. Good thing there were no bills in it.

OMG!!  I about died laughing when i read the part about the underpants!!  I personally find them to be a big waste of time and annoying!!  They always seem to ride up and then you spend the rest of the time digging them out.  Not for me i tell ya!!
Son is 11 and won't go commando, almost never even when he goes to bed in a nightshirt which I would imagine to be nice and comfortable. But maybe it's better that way. I've never seen more wretched, stretched-out, questionable looking pairs of undies than those he leaves on the floor when he changes to go to school in the morning. At least he wears the kind called "boxer briefs," a longer-legged (basic knit) men's underwear, the long legs keep them from sliding up his rear. But I swear, they look like he has wrung them into limp washrags and stretched out the legs, beat them up awhile, and then dropped them where he stood. They are always in a saggy imitation of the shape of his legs and butt (except more tired-out). He sometimes drags his sleepy behind into the living room to change in the mornings, and after he goes I will walk in there and step on the damn underwear-slash-rag that he left in the pathway. Once I got the tongs out to pick them up and put them in the laundry, which made him laugh really hard.

Thank you for the laugh today!!!

I am not going to the tree dump today.  I am home doing laundry.  Just got a call from my daughter and she is bringing  my grandaughter to my house while she and her sister go for a walk.  Those 2 will go 8-10 miles.  Miss N and i will chill out here.
