Why does my anole have spots?

I recently found a green anole outside and it has dark brown spots all over it's body. I read somewhere that this could mean that they are sick, but it doesn't seem to be sick, as it is running around and eating and drinking fine. Are they supposed to have spots?
Also, I have put him in a 10 gal. tank with some sticks and leaves. Is this OK? What should I do with it?
