Coughing when talking. Morning and late afternoon.

Hello, I started coughing around April 18, and it has not gone away. At first I would cough when I would try to talk and could not finish my sentence without coughing in the middle of talking. My family got worried and I went to the doctor and gave me some cough medicine and did a chest xray that came negative. Now my symptoms are more consistent in which I cough just as I wake up and after the last cough I would gag like my body would want to vomit, and this happens every morning. Then in the late afternoon I would start to cough once in a while and when I talk. Anyone experience something similar to this? My PC doc seems to do nothing and really don't know how to treat this.

Have you had a CT?

No only chest x-ray. Is that something you would recommend?
Yes, you seemed to have not had any serious work up.

A CT and cta ( basically CT with and without contrast).

And then more tests to see whete the problem could be coming from.

Such as pfts, v/q and potentially checking if a nerve is pinched causing persistent cough.
