OH noooo .. discovered peanut flour AFTER I baked 48 cookies

for my daughter's class.  Who would have thought the pre-packaged bake 'em cookies would have peanut flour in an oatmeal chocolate chip cookie!

We have packaged them for outside of school, and have rewashed all the utensils and baking sheets and started over with a "safe" cookie.

There's a severe peanut allergy in her class so nothing short of being meticulous is acceptable.

Have you ever come close to an error like this?

Our cookies were safe and a success at school!  However, during the last batch of making the peanut-free cookies, my oven turned off and awaits a service call!

Luckily, that last batch cooked itself with the heat left inside the oven. Good thing, Cause by then it was 11:00 PM AND my daughter's cookies were the ONLY treat scheduled for the class that day. [ whew - stress ]

Now, did I mention the original "plan" called for making the cookies early in December and freezing them to ensure tons of them were available for our little gift bags and class treats, etc., etc.  Maybe next year :)

You would be suprised at how many baking and cereal type products use peanut flour!

We always have to read as part of our managment program, can't tell you how often things we are used to everyday just up and change ingredients... can never get too comfortable unfortunately.

Hope your cookies turned out safe!

This post continued that night.  We are able to make nut-free cookies and halfway through the oven turned off and now isn't working!  Luckily the last batch self-cooked with the heat of the oven.  Ahhh, yes, this will be a cookie cooking experience we'll remember for a very long time!

Hope you had a wonderful Holiday and Happy New Year to All in 2009!
