Cold Sore treatment

Grace,

Hi again, A few months back I remember you recommending a topical treatment for cold sores.  In the past I've used Abreva...but tend to agree with you...it doesn't work that great.  Could you remind me of the one you mentioned?

No, I haven't.  I usually take L-Lysine when I feel it coming on, but I hear that is more effective if you take it daily.  I really haven't found anything that "speeds" healing.  It always tends to last about a week no matter what I do.  I haven't gotten one in awhile.  It seems as though I always get them this time of year though...maybe because my lips tend to get chapped this time of year??  who knows.  Thanks for the Aveeno tip...we'll see how that works.

It probably was aveeno cold sore ointment with propolis.  I've heard good things about it from folks I know who get cold sores and use it. You need to apply it every 2-3 hours while awake from the very first sign of a developing cold sore for it to be most effective.

Have you talked to your doctor about oral antivirals for cold sores too to help speed healing?
