Concerned regarding bump on penis.

Very concerned and looking for some guidance.

13 days ago, on August 6th, I had a brief encounter of unprotected oral sex. Was very drunk and am somewhat fuzzy on the details but was only in her mouth for maybe 3 minutes and did not ejaculate before realizing what was happening and leaving.

I have since developed a small bump on the shaft of my penis, first appearing on day 9 or 10. It doesn’t sting but does very occasionally itch slightly. I though at first it had a slight white head but now seems just to be slightly discolored and depressed in the center. It may have popped without me noticing or may simply have seemed lighter in color at first. I’m not sure.

Very concerned that I may have contracted an STD and am hoping someone here may be able to give me some guidance (obviously you can’t tell me anything with certainty but I’m scared and would appreciate anything you can do or say).

Have considered herpes, but my understanding is that is usually painful and would present with multiple bumps. HPV is of course a possibility but this is mostly smooth and my understanding is that warts are usually rougher. And my bump doesn’t LOOK like the pictures of molluscum that I’ve seen.

Does this sound like anything you guys have experienced?

I am unfortunately just not able to visit a dr at this time and will not be able to for at least a month due to finances.

Doesn't sound like an STI due to the relatively small window between the event and the appearance of the spot.   The incubation period for an STI which produces bumps/chancres/blisters is about a month, so this is too early.

There is more probability that it could be folliculitis ( infected hair follicle) or a bite.  If there is a whitehead on the spot then that is probably the case.

Do you have any other similar spots in a line or cluster?  If you then I would be looking at more towards  a mite/insect..

If it is folliculitis, an antimicrobial soap and steroid cream can clear it up rapidly.. If it is a bite, then an insect bite cream will kill any itch

It wouldn't be a wart from this encounter - the incubation period (time from infection to symptoms) is usually months long, though it could be from a previous encounter.

I agree that it doesn't sound like herpes.

It could also be molluscum, though again, the incubation period would suggest a different source.

It could also be something not related to sex- a fordyce spot, a hair follicle (though that doesn't sound likely, given your response), irritation, etc.

As you know, the only way to know is to get it checked.

There are low cost clinics all over. If you are in the US, google your city and state, and STD Clinic, or call your local health department (google your county and health department) for locations. Planned Parenthood also offers a sliding fee scale, so you pay what you can afford.

Thank you so much for your reply.

I'm still a bit worried about the potential for a HPV infection from a previous partner but at least I know that wouldn't have come from this encounter.

And it's nice to hear someone else say that herpes seems unlikely given the circumstances.

On that note, do you think it's likely that it could be a very EARLY herpes blister that has not develop a head or multiplied? Or is that just not how herpes works, especially after several days.

As for a clinic, I actually get checkups at a local std clinic, but they only deal with HIV, syphilis, gonorrhea and chlamydia. Local clinic was charging over $360 for exam and herpes test and I would need to take time off work for a weekday appt, which isn't something that's possible right now.

But I get what you're saying and will search out other options.
By now, if this were going to turn into a herpes blister, it would have. Typically, if you get any symptoms of herpes, it will be a blister within a day or so.

After several days, it wouldn't be "early", and herpes doesn't really start as bumps.

I understand the frustration with lack of affordable testing, especially when you really just need them to look at a bump. I'm sorry it's so difficult. :(

Sounds more like a foliculitis.

Thanks so much for your reply.

Followup: it doesn't APPEAR to be on a hair follicle. There is certainly no pubic hair growing out of it. Is folliculitis still possible/likely?

Obviously you can't say anything with 100% certainty but I really appreciate your help!
