I had unprotected sex in May, then I took a break from intercourse until August of the same year. In August, I had intercourse one time (which was protected). Now it is the end of Feb the following year and I just tested positive for Gonorrhea. I have had several std testings, one in May, Sept, Nov and Dec. All these test were negative for Gonorrhea. Can Gonorrhea take up to 6 months to test positive? Could this be a false positive? My physician tells me it's not the standard of care to have the test repeated but I truely am uncertain. I also have not had any significant signs of any presence of an STD but I realize this is not accurate evidence. I am considering a second opinion but this may take a while to get an appointment and results and I am concerned that treatment is urgent since 6 months have already past.
P.S. I have repeated the test at the same office, therefore I assume they used the same testing methods (i.g. culture swab or urine).
