Education/Clarification needed on STD symptoms

Hello,

After reading this forum, I am a bit confused and would like some clarifications and answers, ill keep it short.

I understand the suggestion is that e.g. if I had syphilis, the symptom would be a chancre near site of infection about 2 weeks after exposure.

Does it mean that the chancre appears all of a sudden after 2 weeks? or does it mean that the chancre begins to grow prior to the 2 week mark and eventually reaches its full size at 2 weeks time?

Similiarily, If one were infected with HIV, does the severe fever/headache/sore throat symptoms comes all of a sudden? or it would also take its time (a few days/weeks) to build up to that point?

thanks
