Syphilis tests

Hello I had possible exposure 11 weeks ago Where I think he slipped the condom off midsex

I took a syphilis test RPR at 6 weeks that came back positive, confirmation test came back negative so I was not given any treatment
I also did not have any symptoms at all

At 11 weeks I did a retake of the same test and the RPR came back negative

I am aware that this means it’s a false positive the first time around but what are the factors that would  make it positive

I took an HIV duo test at 11 weeks negative
My dr also thought it could be Lymes disease and that came back negative too

The RPR that came back positive - do you know the numbers on that result?

Lots of things can cause a false positive on a syphilis test - autoimmune disorders, pregnancy, some tropical diseases, Lyme, HIV - to name a few.

Since your follow up test was negative, I'd be more likely to write it off as a fluke, or that it was a lab error than something that you need to worry about. People who have conditions that cause false positives usually always test positive, or test positive until that condition is gone.

I hope this helps.
