How likely is it to spread herpes thru female/female mutual masturbation?

My friend and I had a little bit too much to drink and messed around a little bit. We masturbated ourselves and then masturbated eachother. We also shared the same sex toy. If one of us has herpes and the other does not, how likely is it that we infected the other person? From what I’ve read online, it is very hard to transmit the virus from mutual masturbation since it isn’t direct skin to skin contact and the virus loses its viability quickly on inadament objects like hands and toys. We had no genital to genital contact and no oral contact. I had no sores present and didn’t have a break out as far as I know. Freaking out that I passed it along to her considering we are both married and all good friends. I believe this would kill the friendship.

Good to know! But why do so many websites list “sex toys” and “rubbing” as a method of transmission?

its only in theory but not in the real world as the virus dies quickly when exposed to the air

Hi, herpes is spread from direct rubbing contact genital to genital not from what your describing. We can say that its possible to get it on the finger (called Whitlow) but that would be a risk for hsv1 not hsv2 and most at risk for that are in the dental profession as whitlow prefers hsv 1. but even thats a long shot if no visible blisters are present. Hsv2 is considered a genital std.

So it’s not likely that it could have been transmitted from the trace amounts on the sex toy or fingers before masturbating her?
no
