Question about anal STDS

I'm a 22 year old female who has had unprotected anal sex before. I have been tested through blood and urine for just about everything else, and so has my partner. Could I have had an std in my butt from previous partners and not known it? Is there specific testing that needs to be done?

I'm so worried.

You could. The only ones that you'd need to test for rectally are gonorrhea and chlamydia. You might ask your doctor for an anal pap smear, as well, to look for anal HPV. Did you also have unprotected vaginal sex with this person? If you did, and didn't get anything from them vaginally, it's not likely that you got anything anally, but it wouldn't hurt to check. How long has it been since you were with this person? If it's been less than a few years, you could have it and not have symptoms.

The others - HIV, syphilis and herpes - would show up on a blood test no matter how you were infected.

And insist on this testing from your doctor, but prepare for them to tell you it isn't necessary. A lot of doctors will brush you off. Be honest about having unprotected anal sex so they'll do it.

Good luck, and let us know what happens.

And thanks for this question - it's a great question.
I did not have vaginal with this person, however I did have oral as well. This partner was well over 5 years ago, and yes my doctor did blow it off and told me I'm probably fine. I've also have had anal sex with other partners since then? If I had anything would they get it or should I still be asking for the test?
I just got tested for it today. I'll update my post when I get an answer.
Good for you for doing it. I doubt you will be positive if it was over 5 years ago and you've not had any symptoms, but it's good to know and have the peace of mind.

Definitely let us know. :)
