Do I need to worry?

I received oral sex from a female I didn't know and because I was freaking out I got tested for everything 31 days after the incident. All tests returned negative however a few days after I took the test I got a rash on my feet then a few days later on my hands. I also had a very low grade fever (my baseline temp is usually 97.9) that never got above 99.9 degrees. I never noticed a chancre on my penis and I was checking a lot. So my question is could the blood test for syphilis give a false negative at 31 days when I noticed these symptoms within 5 days of taking the test. I have read conflicting reports on this forum from Dr. HHH when a blood test is accurate. Is it correct that a test at 31 days is 80-90% accurate? Should I get retested at 6 weeks or wait longer?

is it likely you have syphilis and your testing at 1 month missed it? not a real concern.

you were seen and the provider didn't think that these were a syphilis related rash. no real reason to doubt them.

I contacted the health department where I had the original testing done. They had me come in and looked at my hands and feet. The nurse practitioner said she was confident that a test at 31 days would be accurate and that my rash maybe caused by coksakie virus.  I'm not sure I understood her correctly but she said that with a blood test they do an initial screening where if something is detected they do a deeper screening to see exactly what is goin on. She said my test was totally negative so she thought I was fine. I'm just confused because I didn't think that is how the test works.

more likely this was something non-std related than your rashes were due to syphilis.

did you follow up on your symptoms with your provider when you had them?
