Recurring Symptoms

I live in Bali, Indonesia and began dating a local girl about six months ago. We became sexually active about four months ago. She tells me that I am only her second sexual partner and with her first partner, she only had sex on two occasions, one protected and one unprotected. The relations that I have been having with her are only vaginal and oral sex, but unprotected.

For the first three months that we were having sex, no issues arose. Approximately one month ago, I noticed a cloudy discharge from the tip of my penis, which stained my underpants. Also very slight burning with urination. No other symptoms. She had no symptoms at all. She maintains that she did not have sexual relations with anyone else, since we started dating. I tend to believe her. Thus, it was mysterious for me to be developing these symptoms after three months of unprotected intercourse with her.

By the way, about three years previous to this, I had similar symptoms after unprotected vaginal and oral sex with another Indonesian woman. Tests at a local clinic for chlamydia and gonorrhea were negative but the symptoms cleared after a course of antibiotics, the name of which I cannot remember. It's that time, until one month ago, I have not experienced any urogenital symptoms whatsoever. I am a 54-year-old man in good health.

Back to the current story. I went to the same lab about three weeks ago, and had blood tests and  a urethral swab to test for chlamydia and gonorrhea. Again, the tests came back negative. I should add that the standards of lab testing here in Bali are not that high. There are lots of false negative and false positive results. The medical system definitely leave something to be desired.

In any event, after consulting with a GP and doing some research online, I did a seven day course of Levaquin 500 mg once per day, and my girlfriend did the same thing, at the same time. We managed to abstain from all sexual activities from the morning after taking the first dose and for the next five days.

After about four days of taking the Levaquin, my symptoms cleared. Unfortunately, in the past two days, they have returned. That means I was symptom-free for only about one week. After resuming sexual relations, my girlfriend and I have had vaginal and oral sex on numerous occasions. She, once again, has no urogenital symptoms whatsoever.

I really don't understand why my symptoms came back, unless our period of abstinence was too short. Or is it possible that her infection did not clear up at all, and I became reinfected by her? It would be wonderful if somebody could chat some light on what might be happening here. Perhaps more importantly, what should we be doing next? There are a couple of dedicated STD clinics here in Bali, but my understanding is that they focus very much on HIV/AIDS. My faith in the medical system here is not high, and I would prefer not to travel to Singapore or Bangkok to deal with this situation.

Thank you in advance for taking the time to share your expertise with me.

See a Dr for some testing. Best advice you can get cause just throwing medication at it you might do more harm then good.
