Syphilis symptoms

Hi there. I recently was diagnosed with Syphilis and just wanted to clarify some things I am learning. Is the disease common to catch through giving oral sex without ejaculation? I am very safe when it comes to sex, I have never had unprotected anal sex (I am a gay man), and have never allowed someone to ejaculate in my mouth. I also never had the Chancre on my penis which I am certain of. With this I assumed it was a mark I had at the back of my throat which the doctor believed looked like it could have possibly been herpes simplex and not the chancre. I heard that the chancre appears at the site of the infection so I'm assuming I could have had it at some point in my mouth. My doctor believes I am in the secondary phase, I am currently on doxycycline as I am being tested for an allergy to penicillin, if I am able to take it I will be receiving the three shots. Overall my symptoms are swollen lymph glands throughout my body, groin, neck, and underarms mostly, swollen tonsils with small white sores, general fatigue and malaise, and the rash (although it did not appear on my palms or bottoms of my feet). I tested negative for HIV, chlamydia, and gonorrhea in which they tested me for the pharyngeal variety. I guess I'm wondering in your experience does this sound like a normal case of Syphilis? And also is transmission common from oral sex without ejaculation? Lastly the doctor seemed to find it odd that I never had the chancre on my penis, and I am certain of this. Thanks for hearing me out!

What did the rash look like and where on the body?

No it is not common from oral sex. Canker would appear at site of infection and can't say about "common" because each case is really different.

Don't know if it's common, but it's similar to how mine went.
