how do you avoid Hsv from Casual contact?

i have to deal with a couple people that i work with that look as if they have hsv, on eye lids and lips.
And sometimes im in a situation where id have to share a pencil or shake hands with them, Im trying my best to avoid a viral contact.
Whats the best advice for my situation.
If i washed my hands with water and soap will it go away if it were present on my hands after a handshake?
will the virus stay on the soap?
Does it matter if the water is hot or cold?
any advice would be helpful, please reply.
