stupid mistake

Hi Doctor,

I am 22 years old, and i had a moment of weakness by going to a Chinese sex worker in Dubai. I had sex for about an hour, which involved kissing, unprotected oral and protected vaginal sex. the thing is that before going to her i had a slight flu and it become worse after the encounter i did not give it much attention took some antibiotics majority of it get better but a slight cough and runny noise is still resistant after 6 weeks and my left lymph node in my neck is swollen but not painful. i wanted to know if what is probability of getting HIV or other STD from his event. I have carefully monitored my condition never got fever or any sort of rash till now. If you could please let me know if the flu before the event could increase my chances of getting and STI/STD ? please do let me know and if some one could advice me on a safe place to get tested in Dubai as i am an expat and they have very strict rules with regards to stds.

Hi and welcome. Unprotected oral sex is low risk of contracting something and most experts would suggest not to test unless there are some symptoms like a white/yellowish discharge and burning while urinating that pops up about 5 days after exposure. The flu has nothing to do with this.If you have a regular sex partner and want to play it safe, then maybe do some tests to eliminate the low risk factor but is single with no ties, then wait a see how you feel.

chlamydia, gonorrhea, trich and syphilis can all be tested for at 6 weeks. you need to wait 3 months for herpes testing. since it was protected vaginal sex, no real reason to test for hiv.

your symptoms do not sound std related at all.
