Gonorrhea for how long without knowing or having stmptoms?

1,5 months ago I was diagnosed with Gonorrhea. I got the antibiotics treatment (my boyfriend as well) and the second test came out negative. Since symptomes like lower abdominal pain, back pain, diarreah, nausea persisted I went to see a gynecologist today. I caught gonorrhea because my partner had cheated. he says he does not know when it could have happened, but last time possible according to him was last June. I told that to the gyn and she said it is imposible...that the infection has has to be recent...that there is now way that I could have been infected more than half a year ago. Nevertheless all over the web I read that it is possible that an infection like that can lie dormant for some time etc. That often it isn't detected because of symptoms but because of routine controll etc. So my question now is: what is right? I am really disturbed right now since I don't know if I cam rely on her judgement, saying I have no PID when her statement about gonorrhea isn't true either. Is there a limit of time for how long gonorrhea can lie dormant?

You will never know how long you have had it. Just impossible to tell. Only info you have if what your bf has told you.

You know mostly I am just wondering for how long i could have been infected and if it could have caused damage. My boyfriend assures me that he NEVER had unprotected intercourse and there was never a broken condom...and I believe him that because when I got to know him he ALWAYS was veeery careful with protection (also because he did not want to father a child)..but I am not quite sure if he maybe received or has given oral sex without protection. My other concern is if it is posible to have had the infection for months or up to a year without having symptoms or feeling really sick. I found out las Sept that my boyfriend cheated. We talked about everything and with proof there I could say that the last time happend at the end of June. I had to leave the coutry again for work in Dec for a month and after coming back I decided to get tested for stds...just to make sure. That is when they found gonorrhea and now obviously I am womdering if he maybe cheated again?! Or if I already had it from some time earlier, you know? The gyn yesterday said that it MUST be a recent infection, but all over the internet I read that gonorrea can be asymptomic and therefore persist in the body for quite some time. That is why I do not know if I can trust that gyns judgement at all...do you know about that aspect? I am so insecure and confused since there are soooo many opinions an insights on that.

Oh ok. I doubt he had oral gonorrhea unless he gave oral sex to a man.

Your yeast issues could have been mistaken for gonorrhea. Normally the discharge is a different color though.

He had a persistant throat infection and the doctor gave him a prescription for just the same antibiotic that we got now to treat the gonorrhea. He was not tested at that moment for gonorrhea since no one thought about an infection like that. He had no blisters or obvious signs in his mouth, he just has a sore throat.

Thank you so much for your quick answer. For example I am also wondering the following: I have had quite some problems with yeast infections and cistitis in the past so I was wondering, if I could have misread  the symptoms of gonorrhea and just took it as another infection of that kind? Usually I took some ovaries to get the Ph into balance again etc but just had to take atibiotics 2 years ago because I got bitten by a dog. My boyfriend got treated with the same antibiotics that we got treated now for gonorrhea for a throat infection about 2 times so I was wondering if it could be posible that like that without knowing we kept the gonorrhea "under control" or read symptomes wrong? As I understood it, Gonorrhea can be given from one to another by oral sex and then "look" like a throat infection...true? My boyfriend assueres me that he never had unprotected intercourse so I am wondering if he could have gotten it by giving or receiving oral sex without protection?

Dormant is not the right term to use as the infection would be active. You can't tell how long you have had it. I will say that symptoms show in men about 90+% of the time at about 2-5 days, shows in women about 60+% at that same time frame. So could you have had it for 6 months...yes. But more likely this would be a newer infection but can't say for certain.
