Any harm in taking extra 500mg of azithromycin for chlamydia?

I got azithromycin 500mg tablet which is a pack of 3 tablets.
Doctor suggested me to take 1000mg for chlamydia treatment.
I took the 2 tablets of 500mg yesterday.
But left with one extra 500mg.
Is it safe to take this extra 500mg within 2-3days?
I am worried because someone told extra dose may develop resistance to bacteria.
