Possible genital wart

I posted about sex with an escort earlier.  Encounter was about 10 months ago.  Oral and vaginal sex with condom.  I just was at the dermatologist - had what looked like a skin tag in my right groin area.  Dermatologist couldn't tell if it was a skin tag or a wart - sending it out for lab to look at under microscope - won't have results for 2 weeks.  If it's a wart - what do I do?  I've had unprotected sex with my wife since the encounter with the escort.  Have I put my wife at serious risk?  I'm not even sure how long ago the thing appeared.  Need help.

Hey Hooper -

If it is a wart, and only the lab will be able to tell you that, then your wife is at risk for getting warts.

Genital warts aren't associated with cervical cancer. They are considered low-risk HPV, meaning they don't cause increased risk for cancer.

If it is a wart, then the only thing you can do is wait it out. HPV clears from the body within 2 years in 90% of those who have it. It's incredibly common - 90% of those who are sexually active will get it at least once in their lifetimes.

But don't panic. You had protected oral and protected sex, right? Condoms offer significant protection for HPV. Chances are good that this is just a skin tag. I'm glad your doctor biopsied it.

Thanks for the encouragement, Jessi.  I don't know how I'm going to wait 2 weeks for the results!  If they say it was a wart, I'll probably have to come clean and likely destroy my family.  All for one stupid encounter.  Ugh.
You don't know what the report will say, so try hard not to imagine a destroyed family just yet. I know that's easier said than done.

Hang in there, okay? Did you ever go for counseling? This would be something to discuss with a counselor.
Going to see her today.
That's great news. I'm happy to hear it. Therapy isn't easy, but really worth it.
Jessi.  Got news today it was a "benign lesion."  Very relieved.  Thanks for your help getting through this.
Congrats! You're welcome and take care. :)
Dermatologist called today.  Benign just meant non cancerous.  Inconclusive as to if it was a wart.  Something about keratosis with some signs of something.  Said they can do an additional test for virus.  Dermatologist didn't know if I wanted the test.  Would you be willing to dm for advice?  I don't think it would be educational for the community.
Sure, shoot me a DM. I'm not an expert on other things, but I'll try to help.
Sent you a dm.  Thanks.
