Syphilis RPR is negative but Syphilis Treponemal reactive. What does it mean?

Some 30 years ago I had syphilis and was treated. I decided to get tested again May 2020

RESULTS   CONDITION             TEST TYPE

Reactive     syphilis CLIA -           Treponemal Ab

Negative     syphilis,RPR -           RPR quantitative

Negative     syphilis,RPR,Quant,   RPR (titer)

Reactive      Syphilis TP,             TP IgG/IgM

I called the AHF free testing sites and she says it may always shows reactive even when it’s not really infectious anymore. I would like to get the real answer pls, from any medical professionals.

Been having headache everyday and constant urination. Last intercourse about 4 days ago with condom the whole time. No breakage.

Is the AHF person right? Am I really negative or what?

Yes, the person was correct. If you had current, infectious syphilis that needed treatment, your RPR would be reactive. The tests that are reactive might always be reactive in people who've had syphilis that has been successfully treated in the past.

Constant headaches can be from so many things, but you should talk to your doctor about that. When you were tested for syphilis, were you tested for anything else? Constant urination can also be caused by a lot of things - urinary tract infections, STDs, prostate issues, etc.

Definitely work with your doctor on this. If you haven't tested for other STDs, like gonorrhea and chlamydia, you should do that, and check for a UTI, too.

Good luck, and let us know what happens.
