Cephalexin is no longer on the list of recommended treatments for gonorrhea.  Cipro isn't either.

You should talk to your doc about getting one of the treatments listed here -

But..  it is also stated in http://www.medicinenet.com/script/main/art.asp?articlekey=80537 that for as long as its under the cephalosporins its okay.. and i forgot to place there that i was already improving on my gonorrhea.. because my symptoms were gone, my mistake was i didnt follow my course because i assumed that i was cured. my  question now is do i need to go back and start the course again? or find another antibiotic?

I would trust the CDC over medicinenet.  Whether or not you decide to get another antibiotic or continue with keflex, you probably do need to start treatment again.

okay...i just came from the hospital... and my results were negative... they got a sample of my PUS but the result says that NO MICROORGANISM SEEN.... now im more worried... if this is not GONORRHEA then what is this? is it possible that A VIRUS is causing the infection? or just a Plain UTI? my urinalysis was okay except for the WBC count... ranging from 45-50... so it means there's an infection but why on earth cant they find anything  on my GRAM STAIN? PLS HELP!!!

If your WBC count was that high, it indicates SOMETHING.  Did they do any other testing, or give you more antibiotics?

Your testing may be falsely negative because you were recently on antibiotics.

Seriously, that's a pretty high wbc count when you consider most pleaces will treat when one of those numbers reaches anywhere between 5 and 10.

You need to follow up on this.  Just because your gram stain is neg doesn't mean you don't have gonorrhea.  The keflex you took might be inhibiting the growth of gonorrhea enough to not test positive.

im thinking the same thing... hmm... so should i do? ask the doctor? but i did tell her that i was taking up an antibitotics... hmm... but still she pushed through the test.. but seriously if im prohibiting the growth well atleast there would be dead bacteria seen on the samples right? and its not anymore keflex im drinking its ciprofloxacin... so should i get another test? i think somethings wrong with my urinalysis because i didnt followed the clean catch method i just peed on the cup directly

I agree that since you were recently on antibiotics, your negative results might be a false negative.  The best antibiotic for gonorrhea IMO is a 250mg shot of ceftriaxone.  I'd wait for 2 weeks and get retested, if you test positive, get the shot.

You actually don't want to do a clean catch for stds because it can get rid of bacteria that the lab needs to see to make a diagnosis.

45-50 WBC isn't going to be a false result of anything.  That's quite high.

I think that you should talk to your doc about this.  There are a lot of resistant strains of gonorrhea, and cipro might not work for you.  There are more resistant strains in some locations than others, and if you are a man who has sex with men, cipro should never be used for you as there are many resistant strains in that community.

My suggestions - either get a shot of ceftriaxone, or stop all the meds, and test in 2 weeks.

Tell her you talked to the CDC or something if you need to.  Its fairly common knowledge that being on antibiotics can affect some std testing.

Good luck!!

The doxy would be for chlamydia.

If this is gonorrhea, you should see an improvement within a few days, if not sooner.

Alcohol is fine, and chlamydia and NGU can cause discharge, but the doxy would cure those.

Non-std causes would be prostatitis or possibly epididymitis.

It could be that the treatment is still working, and I know about the instant cure thing - I get that way too.

Its only been about 3-4 days since you've been treated, so if you aren't totally better in a few more days, call your doc.

Are you taking the doxy like you should?

What are you drinking?

Are you taking the doxy at 100 mg twice a day for 7 days?  That will cure chlamydia if you have that, but you need to take it at that dose.
