possible chlamydia

Hi doctor and thank you in advance for your hp.  Here is my situation.  About 15 months ago I strayed from my current relationship and had unprotected sex with a woman in her mid 30`s.  I am 25. Since this encounter I have asked the woman if she has been tested and she assures me she was tested a month after our encounter.  I have had no symptoms of anything but a few months ago I read that chlamydia is often asymptomatic and I have been worried about it ever since.  I am still in my relationship and she hasnt had any symptoms of an std either. I dont think that I have anything but I am seeking an expert opinion.  I read that chlamydia is not very common among women over 30. So I guess my question is in your opinion do you think I should be worried or concerned about having chlamydia?

Concentrated urine, as when someone is dehydrated, could cause a "hot" feeling during urination.  Increased fluid intake might help.  If not, I would advise you to see your doctor about it.  Whatever the cause, for sure it isn't chlamydia or any other STD from an exposure more than a year earlier.

I should note also that I work a very physical job so I suppose the soda could be dehydrating me

Thank you again for your reply. I just have one more question if thats ok. I drink a lot of soda everyday and when I urinate it feels hot no pain or anythin just kind of hot. But when I drink water it feels fine to urinate. I was wondering if the soda is whats making my urine feel hot. And if you have burning urination due to an std will drinking a lot of water make the burning go away?

Welcome to the forum. Thanks for your question.

You had accurate replies to these questions on the chlamydia community forum.  It is rare for chlamydia to persist 15 months, especially in men; most infections clear up, without treatment, within a few months.  And the evidence suggests you partner at that time wasn't infected -- both because of her age (as you found in your own research) and because she probably was telling the truth when she reported she tested negative.

Having said all that, you've apparently been worrying about this for over a year.  If you continue to be concerned, consider being tested.  All it takes is a urine specimen, which you can arrnage by an online lab service like getstdtested.com (and several others); or through your personal physician or a local public health or Planned Parenthood clinic. You may find that a negative test is more reassuring than anything I can say.

Best wishes--  HHH, MD
