Sudden low sex drive, 33 year old man

Hello all

I'm 33 and an otherwise fit and reasonably healthy guy. I'm not overweight, and am a non-smoker. I know I do drink too much (average 5 units a day I guess). My problem is that over the last 4 months or so, my libido has really declined. I haven't been in a relationship for a long time so I am talking about masturbation I'm afraid. I regularly masturbate (or used to) to internet porn, I used to do it on average at least once a day, and at weekends sometimes 2 or 3 times a day. Sometimes I would masturbate simply because it had become a habit, not because I was necessarily feeling that horny. Since about September I've gone through periods where I'm just not interested. If I think thoughts that used to get me horny, nothing happens, or I'll get a slight feeling "down below" which doesn't develop into an erection.  If I try to watch internet porn, sometimes I'll get an erection and be able to masturbate, but it takes longer than before. I've left it for a couple of weeks occasionally, and I have then been able to get a decent erection, but a couple of days later the problem returns. I've had my blood tested and my testosterone levels are normal.

Now here's my theory, which I would like people's thoughts on if possible. About the same time as all this started, I started waxing.  I'm on the hairy side and have always hated having a hairy back. So in September I began waxing, and have been back on a regular basis since then. My theory is as follows: I have a wax, and suddenly my body needs to start producing hair follicles in a great quantity. What does it need to do this?  Testosterone!  So my testosterone "supply" is being utilised by my body to produce lots of follicles and hair. Leaving not much left for sexual arousal.

Does this all sound possible or am I totally on the wrong track?

Cheers everyone

John

John,
Hmmmm..........You put alot of thought into that one!
Here's another probability:
Why did you start waxing?  More than likely you may be feeling a bit unattractive and are trying to do something to make yourself more attractive.  And, good for you.  But, really, what is going on?  Masturbation is fine, but lacks that other person's touch and involvement.  Without the other person stimulating you (on all levels, not just sexually) your inner workings may be suffering.  And, without sounding too sally for you, it starts with you feeling good TOWARDS yourself.  When we feel wanted/desired there is an electrochemical process that utilizes that abundant testosterone level that you have and causes a myriad of complex neurochemical processes that, ultimately, give us that feeling of wellness and excitability.
My suggestion would be to do those small things(waxing, haircut, etc) that help you to feel a bit better about you then GET OUT THERE!  Just having some chic exchange glances with you will help your neurochemical process and you will start to find your libido will return.
Best of luck to you, mate!
Be safe, stay educated and HAVE FUN!
