I don't know if I have shingles. I originally had an itch in my right upper back just to the left of my scapula where I couldn't reach. When I scratched it against the edge of a door jamb, it was very painful like a wound, a series of bites, pinched nerve or bruised trapezius - NOT a superficial burning pain. I then looked in the mirror I noticed a 3x3 inch area of raised pink welts. Days later, I got more itching in the form of ABRUPT pin point "itching stings" that needed scratching immediately. Also experienced fatigue like the willingness to take a nap in the afternoon and fatigue in the form of lactic acid muscle burn.
Questions please: 1. Can shingles be very painful to scratch but otherwise not very painful?
2. Can shingles cause referred pain/itch to the opposite side of the body? My right pectoral area has very light itch sensations almost almost as if it's referred from the back, unless it's lymph nodes working overtime. Also, when I gently itch other parts of my body or if I swallow liquids, it causes that rash on my back to itch! Any input would be greatly appreciated. Since first noticing the rash 12 days ago, most of the rash crusted and pain/itch has gotten 70% better. Thanks!
