Is a pimple-like sore that won't heal on inner thigh worrisome?

Hello and thank you for your time. I have had a pimple like sore on my inner thigh for the better part of this year - at least 8 to 10 months I would guess. I think it may have started out as an ingrown hair or a pimple, but it clearly has not healed, and I will admit I have been picking at it off and on. My concern is that after getting a better look at it, using a camera and light, the color is pinkish, and it is probably about a quarter inch in diameter. It is a raised medium-sized bump,  and Looks very much like a swollen pimple with a small open sore/dimple on top. It will typically scab over, but I have been habitually picking it off, usually by scratching (I know this isn’t a good thing). Shining a light on it, there’s a little bit of crusty skin around the base diameter, but not much. Maybe some slightly lighter color skin ring around it, and when looking into the small, open sore area, there appears to be a shiny fluid like substance (maybe a sax or cyst). I can’t tell if it’s just a reflection. It doesn’t bleed or leak anything, and there is no pain unless I scratch the scab off. I guess I’m a little concerned of the location, but does anyone have any ideas as to what this might be? Does it sound like a possible cancer presentation or other worrisome condition?

Hello and welcome to the forum.  Sorry you have this worrisome spot.  We do encourage you to get it checked out as that is always the best and safest thing to do.  Currently, some doctors are willing to do things online or virtually.  You can start with your GP and then move to a dermatologist if necessary.  Here is some information on skin cancer.  https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/skin-cancer/symptoms-causes/syc-20377605  Please note that skin cancer most often will form on areas often exposed to sun light.  This doesn't sound to be the case.  There are three types of skin cancers, basal cell, squamous cell and melanoma.  The provided link you can copy and paste into your browser has descriptions and pictures of each to compare to your situation.  While it doesn't sound like skin cancer from your description, it is important to get checked.  Of the three, it would seem squamous cell would be most like your symptoms.  However, I do doubt this would be the case.  Please check in with your doctor and let me know.
