New black spot on face

About 1 to 1 1/2 months ago I noticed a sudden, new, tiny black spot on my face.  It is basically where the bottom of my under eye skin meets my upper cheek and is totally flat.  The borders seem smooth and the color even, but it is kind of hard to be sure due to the tiny size - almost looks as if someone touched me with a sharpie marker with a slightly flattened tip.  I have nothing even remotely this dark anywhere else on my face.

I went to the dermatologist yesterday to have it checked, because I have multiple sclerosis and the treatment I am on is an immunosuppressant and one of the known risks is that it accelerates melanoma.  I thought she would tell me I'm just paranoid, but to my surprise, did a punch biopsy right then and there.  During the biopsy, she kept making noises that indicated she was surprised ... Oh! ... Hmmmm .... Wellll .... And ended up using "a couple" of stitches instead of just one as she initially said would be needed.

I spent 25 yrs in the medical field, so I did some research before I even went to get this thing checked.  The dermatologist said it "might just be a blue nevus", but when I asked how often one would show up out of the blue at my age (just turned 50), she admitted they normally show up by adolescence.

I am fair skinned, with green eyes.  From age 10-18, I spent all summer outside in the pool at our apt. complex, getting a good sunburn before I would then tan.  Have had several blistering sunburns, the last being in my 20s.  I'm not freaking out or anything, (been through plenty since beign diagnosed with MS, so i dont get rattled very easily, lol) - more just curious about the strength of the "blue nevus" possibility.  Just wondering what insights you might have ... I should hear about the biopsy in a couple of weeks according to the dermatologist.

Thanks for any help!

Thank you for getting back to me and for your insight!  I just googled syringomas, but I don't think that is what this is .... My lesion was black and totally flat, not raised or a bump at all.  I know the only way to be sure is by the biopsy, and they said the results should be back in a couple of weeks or so.  Hopefully it won't turn out to be a melanoma, but if it is, then we'll just deal with it.  I've learned to deal with whatever comes just one day at a time, lol.

I will keep you posted once the biopsy comes back.
Thank you again!

Hello,
Blue nevi may develop at any age but are usually noticed in the second decade of life or later. You need to get a biopsy of the lesion done to confirm the diagnosis. It can be a syringoma as well. Syringomas are benign bumps caused by overgrowth of cells; Treatment of syringoma is by electrocautery, cryotherapy, laser or surgical excision.

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
