Lack of ZZZZ's

I am a 29 year old female, who has been a member of MS forum for a while now, undiagnosed, and have noticed your posts in the forum. I would like your insight on something. I was being tested for MS, cause I had what they thought was "classic" symptoms. But, after a lengthy stay in the hospital, I was told it was somatoform disorder.  I had two MRI's done, both showing "white spots" but they say they dont coinside with typical MS lesions. ??? And also dont paralell my symptoms. hmmm....
Anywhooo... I got put on Trazadone (50mg) for my sleep patterns. They think that going on this will "reset my clock" and help me to get rid of my symptoms. (dizzyness, vision loss, falling, vertigo, bowel incontinance.)

I am wondering tho, would getting up four or five times a night, like I do, cause some of these symptoms? I never paid much attention to the fact that I really dont sleep well at night. Maybe this is the part of my problem.  I am up many times through out the night. I have been like this for a few years now. My husband claims that in the last couple of years, I snore LOUDLY, and with no pattern. I NEVER feel rested at night. Havent in a long time.
Any suggestions ? I feel the Trazadone worked for the first week, but now doesnt help at all. I am back to my old habits of getting up. Maybe I need my medication up'ed? When I did some research on this medication, they commonly use this for sleep, and a lot of people are on 2-600 mg a day.

I dunno. Are there any other meds that I could be suggesting to my doctor to try? He is kind of passive, and "we will see" kinda guy.
I am tired, and it is really affecting my relationships with my husband and children. ... Could you help?

Based on what you've told me, another sleeping pill is the last thing you need. If you snore that much, the first thing you need is a formal sleep study to treat any possible underlying obstructive sleep apnea. This is a very good reason for you to keep waking up. However, your symptoms are more consistent with upper airway resistance syndrome (UARS), where due to multiple repeated upper airway obstructions and arousals, you never feel refreshed, no matter how long you sleep. If you've been following my questions on the MS forum, you also may have many of the symptoms that I describe: not being able to sleep on your back, cold hands or feet, snoring parent, and chronic throat reflux symptoms.

Since you don't officially have MS, UARS is a likely possibility for you. This condition can also give rise to the various neurologic symptoms that you describe, such as dizziness, visual disturbances, falling, vertigo and bowel problems. Many people with this diagnosis are given one of the "somatic" disorders. The findings on your MRI are probably what are called unidentified bright objects or UBOs. This could also be consistent with the pattern that you can see sometimes with migraines, which is VERY common with UARS. You can have a migraine attack anywhere in your body, including your ears, eyes and bowels.

Take a look at my article on upper airway resistance syndrome.

The other thing I was thinking of, as I was reading your web page, was the other symptoms I have been having. Chronic Diarrea, and weight gain. Last April, I was 120lbs, and now I am 175lbs. Man, as I am reading your article Tired of being Tired, The Upper Airway Resistance Syndrome... THIS WAS WRITTEN ABOUT ME!!!

THANK YOU!!! I have been following your posts in the MS forum, and yes I can not sleep on my back, I sleep on my stomach, mostly, or on my side. I also suffer from Migranes and have all my life. My father snores horribly, so bad, that my mom and dad have to sleep in seperate rooms mostly. In my MRI it said that I have Chronic Sinitus (sp?)
What are treatments for this?
