In my sleep I wake up from Heart attack and electrocution

For years now, I used to have a sleep thing where I will feel concious but paralysed for a few seconds before my body responds and the I wake up fully. But lately, I have been waking up to the biggest jolt anyone can imagine..

4 times in the last couple of months, I have woken up to what can only be described as electrocution .... There is a shock all over my body especially my feet and for about half hour I have a numbing 'pins and needles' feeling in my right arm. Its freaking me out as last night was the worst as it was so painfull, I screamed out and woke the neighbour!
Please someone out there must know what I can do in order for this horrible experience NOT to be repeated

Thanks

It is normal to feel some sleep paralysis upon waking as the brain can become conscious before the body has fully awoken.  It is not anything to be too concerned about.  Most people will experience it within their lifetime but waking up with shooting pain and/or feeling like you are having a heart attack is not normal.  You could have simple electrolyte imbalances.  Low potassium can cause muscle spasms.  But it could be a whole host of other issues, illnesses or disorders so I highly recommend seeing a doctor for a full physical and get checked out.  Best of luck sorting it out and getting to the bottom of things.
