Can't sleep, too much light

I used to be able to sleep in on the weekends, but now I can't even sleep till my alarm on weekdays. It's just too bright and I end up waking up just after sunrise. I'm not talking about the kind of brightness a darkening curtain would help. I wear two sleeping masks and that still isn't dark enough. It's like my forehead can sense that there is still light in the room. It's only dark enough if I sleep with a heavy pillow over my head. Usually though, once I'm awake, I'm awake and the pillow doesn't help me go back to sleep. Does anyone have advice on something that will help me stay asleep (I don't usually have any problem falling asleep at night)?

Do you know that proper usage of essential oils will ease insomnia? I'm the one who had suffered a lot by my sleepless nights. I tried various medications and therapy to get rid of this problem, but none of them worked on me. Later I tried to spray essential oils using an aromatherapy diffuser. That was really effective. I got this information from an article on essential oils and insomnia ( http://www.pinewoodhealth.ca/blog/general-category/essential-oils-help-with-insomnia-says-toronto-naturopath/ ) which I read last month. It explains well about the effect of such oils in sleep. I think lavender is the best one to get a good sleep. I'm using it right now. There are so many other essential oils are listed in that article. You can try such alternative methods for getting a good sleep. All the best. Feel like sharing. Hope this helps :)

I saw you mention a darkening curtain, but there are Room Darkening Shaded very specific to this.  They literally block out light from the edges as well.

Taking some sleeping pills may help you get better sleep at night, it is not good for regular use so better consult with a doctor. I take Ambien, when I trouble sleeping due to irregular sleep or other distraction.
