Not waking up.please read !

Hi.I had a very strange experience last night.I am 36 yr male and quite healthy.Yesterday I came back from a part and went to bed at about midnight.I locked the door as I had to change clothes and I forgot to open it.About 30 minutes after that my wife was knocking at the door but I didn't wake up.She and my Dad kept banging at the door for about. 20 minutes and I still didn't wake up.Finally my Dad hit the door so hard that it broke open. And I still didn't get up !

I'm finding it hard to believe this.Has this happened to anyone.I don't do drugs nor was I drunk yesterday.I work shifts and I had not slept well most of the week.I did have one anti histamine tablet about 4 days back as I had some allergic cold/congestion.I was fatigued for sure but I've never heard of anyone in such deep sleep.
This has happened once about 20 years ago too but at that time I excused myself as I was sleeping on the 1st floor of my house. This time they were right outside my room.

Would really appreciate your input.

That must have been really unnerving, sorry you had to go through that. You might consider having a fasting blood sugar test - a really low sugar can make someone difficult to waken.

Just as a precaution, make sure you have a monoxide detector and one for natural gas. This issue is less likely if you had the same problem 20 years ago, luckily.

You were definitely in a DEEP sleep.  It is good your subconscious realized your dad and wife were there to wake you if you were passing into an endless sleep.  Just part of life, but try to get adequate rest every 24 hour period.

I think if you were particularly tired, exhausted the "dead" sleep is not unusual.  If it is chronic you should discuss with a doctor.

You mention shift work, changing when you sleep, that can be very difficult for some people.
