Waking up screaming

Does anyone else ever wake up in the night screaming? About three times a year I wake up screaming during a bad dream. I know everyone has bad dreams at times but I'm wondering if it's 'normal' for a 58 year old woman to wake up screaming.

Hi,

Occasional nightmares are commonplace but if they start occurring regularly a medical evaluation becomes necessary.
Nightmares occur commonly due to stress, sleeping face down on a pillow, eating before bedtime, also sleeping on the left side with chest compressed.

How are you? With nigh terrors, you usually wake up abruptly from slow-wave sleep  with accompanied gasping, moaning, or screaming. Adult night terrors are much less common usually and it often responds to treatment in the form of psychotherapy and antidepressant medication. There is some evidence of a link between adult night terrors and hypoglycemia. It would be best to discuss this with your doctor for proper management. You can read more about this through this link:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Night_terror

Take care and keep us posted.

Night Terrors.  I use to have them when first diagnosed with PTSD and Depression.  They have gradually went away and are replaced with plain ol' dreams and nightmares,
