Weird sleep breathing

Hello, I would like to know what the Doctors think of my husband's night breathing. I lay awake worried about him all the time. Last night I actually really listened to him and I counted 4 breaths, then nothing for up to 25 seconds, then he resumed again for another 4-6 breaths then none for a further 16-20 seconds and this went on for hours. I cannot imagine this is normal. What do you think? Is this what they call Sleep Apnoea? Is it dangerous? He is 47, and a smoker. I can remember hearing him do this before, but have never really "listened" to the rhythm before.
Look forward  to your reply.

Hi Kurt, thank-you for getting back to me on this worrisome "problem". I will most certainly be advising my husband to seek help on this.

Good afternoon, Turyza.

The symptoms you describe sound very much like sleep apnea.  The only way to diagnose this for sure is to have an overnight sleep study done.  Your MD will need to request this.  Sleep apnea can cause many health problems because not enough oxygen is getting to the brain and organs.  The longer you wait, the worse it can get.

Please let us know how everything goes.

Cheers,

Curt
