I wake up to my snore.

My own snore wakes me up. It started only recently. As soon as I'm about to fall asleep, I hear my own snoring and then I wake up.

I'm 40 years old, slim, I'm not sporting that much.

I have always snored, but four weeks ago, my neurologist gave me Carbamazepina and then I started to wake up to my own snore. I told this to the doctor and he suspended the pill already a week ago. He said I should wait for 3-5 days for the chemical to go out of my system, and I was hoping for my snores to be "back to normal" but it didn't happen. It's already a week and I simply can't sleep.

I went to see 2 mouth-ear-nose doctors. I do have the septum deviated. One of them says I need surgery so that I can breath ok and stop snoring, the other one said I don't need surgery because the deviation is not obstructive. It's very confusing.

Is it common to wake up to your own snore? Is this a sleep disorder?

I'm so depressed and upset, even having suicidal thoughts. Please help. Thank you.
Thank you.

Dear Jerry,
Thank you so much for taking your time to answer about my snoring and for your kind advise.

In fact, I went to the doctor and now I do have answers about my condition. I've been diagnosed with apnea and nocturnal epilepsy. How about that? I waited until having a certainty to share this information with you.

I wish you all the best and thank you again.

Its funny I've had the same thing happen to me a few times over the past year. I'm 29 and right when I am dozing off into sleep I make like a snore sound and it makes me jolt awake...was yours the same thing? I've noticed it happening when I'm lying on my back.
Carlos, what was your course of treatment? And what type of doctor did you see to get diagnosed?

I've been having the same thing off and on over the years. Jerking awake when on my back or waking up every time I hear my snore on my stomach. Stress usually brings it on and I've been able to get past it within a few days. Except for this last time. I've been using benzo's so I can sleep and I'd like to return to my normal sleeping patterns on my own.

I'm not sure what to do.

I do not have any statistics, but I've lived a long time and I think it is unusual for one to be waked up by their own snoring.  I have some problem with snoring and know that only because my wife complains.

I have also be diagnosed with mild obstructive sleep apnea.  You have a condition, I think that could contribute to that and a easy/preliminary test you might want to consider is to have an overnight recording oximeter test run.  This will show if you have any low oxygen saturation periods.  If you do it may be you condition is indeed obstructive.

This doesn't address you question, but hope it helps.
