Why does my husband sleep excessively?

For the past two years, my husband sleeps for 24-36 hours a day on a regular basis, and at one point it was 72 hours.  I know he has diabetes that he refuses to try to control or monitor.  He lives on Mt Dew and pre-made sandwiches while out and working.   He won't eat a home cooked meal, as he doesn't want to do dishes he says, but he's already eaten before coming home in any case.  He can fall asleep at any time.  He is hard to wake, if you can even wake him.  He comes out swinging and fighting and screaming, and says he's exhausted and needs to sleep more.  It's to the point he can't hold a job, can't drive, can't have a conversation or even listen to a song all the way through.

His memory is also failing with this.  The more he sleeps, the less he seems to remember.  This means, he misses appointments, forgets promises and doesn't do what is needed to stay healthy.

What should or can I do?  He refuses to see a doctor about it, even though his insurance fully covers his visits.  I really am at a loss to know what to do. I feel like he might need some in house therapy at a facility.

At the risk of stating the obvious, your husband needs to see a doctor.  He could have obstructive sleep apnea, a serious but very treatable condition.  If he refuses to see a doctor, you might ask in what way am I enabling this?  Take those away and hopefully it will help.
