Worst Insomnia EVER!

Man, I've had the worst insomnia ever this week. Beforehand, I never really ever had any sleeping problems. They just "suddenly" came. Last Sunday I went to sleep at 6:30am and woke up around 3:30pm like always (yeah, I have a weird work schedule), but then  Monday I tried to go to bed at 4:10am but couldn't sleep. I eventually fell asleep like at 8am but I've never had such trouble falling asleep before 'cause I was EXHAUSTED.

The next night I didn't have any problems going to sleep but STAYING asleep. I like, woke up 3 or 4 times before finally getting up at 1:20pm. I was tired that day and luckily we were let out of work early so when I got home I tried taking an evening nap but did not fall asleep. I laid there for a solid hour and I did not fall asleep. I used to could sleep on command at anytime (morning, evening, whenver). About a week prior I was able to fall asleep just fine in the evening time granted I was tired enough.  What in the world is going on!? Eventually gave up and just stayed up until 6:30am the next morning and tried to go to sleep but had difficulty. It took a long time but I finally must've dosed off because I ended up waking up for whatever reason at 8am but was able to fall back asleep again. However, woke up again at around 11:30pm and had to go urinate. Couldn't go back to sleep after that.

The next night I went to bed around 1:30am but woke up at 3am. Couldn't get back to sleep until like 4am but I constantly woke up (but luckily was able to fall back asleep). Eventually got up at 2:30pm.

Went to sleep the next night at 7:30am and didn't really have any problem falling asleep as much as staying asleep. Woke up eventually at 1:30pm (although I was still tired) because I had to go urinate and couldn't go back to sleep after that.

Went to sleep the next night around 6:30 but woke up twice. Was able to go back to sleep though. Woke up at 11:00am and couldn't go back to sleep although I was SUPER DUPER TIRED.

Tried going to bed earlier this night at 12am but couldn't sleep at all. Didn't fall asleep 'till around 4am  woke up a couple times until 11:30am when I couldn't sleep anymore. I was tired all day. This was yesterday and I have not slept since then. Meaning I've been up for almost 36 hours!

This insomnia is getting worse. What if I have Sporadic Fatal Insomnia? Not only am I having sleep troubles, but I'm ALWAYS cold all the time and my thermometer is usually set to 78. This is unusual. I know I'm only 26, African-American and have no family history that I know of of this disease, and I know it's rare but when you have all the symptoms, it's scary!

You don't have any symptoms of Fatal Insomnia at all, you obviously don't know what fatal insomnia is.  I would consider what you have as just basic insomnia.  You seriously consider sleeping for six hours straight as trouble staying asleep?  Sorry if I'm coming off as an *******, but as someone who regularly gets 2 hours a night and goes 2-4 days straight without sleep, I wish I slept as good as you describe.

I hope you are feeling better by now Autumn.

I'll ask the same questions the other previous posts did. Are you under any stress or have you been experiencing anxiety or depression lately? These are the things that usually cause insomnia. Treating the underlying condition would take care of the sleep issue you are experiencing. Trust me, these things can get a lot between you and your precious sleep. It's a been there, seen that issue for me. Also avoid drinking coffee or other related products that contain caffeine during the night.

I also suffer from Insomnia but it's all do to constant worry. Is there something in your life recently you have been through or are worried about? This usually causes sleep problems if we can't get the mind to calm down. Try reading before bed and a warm glass of milk. If not better I would see your DR and find out if there is a underlining health problem if this continues. Good luck

Are you undergoing any type of stress lately or experienced a significant life event?
You may be suffering from depression/anxiety as these ailments frequently effect sleep.
You may wish to consider a good physical exam and blood work.  Discus these symptoms with your doctor.
